A Sense of Place - Marian Young
I have a BA Hons. Degree in Art History, & had a long & rewarding career as Arts’ Coordinator/Teacher, in two prisons in the SW; plus adult education.
I started painting from a young age, & did many courses. However, studying Art History introduced me to a range of Artists – that blew me away, & I still admire their work – Diebenkorn, Peter Lanyon, & Hans Hoffman.
I approach each blank canvas, with no preconceived idea of the outcome. I merely allow the flow & direction of paint – to intuitively lead me to that ‘Sense of Place,’ that I am subconsciously driven to. Though simplistic in form, my aim is to evoke a certain calm through Land & Seascapes.
My work is in private collections, both nationally & internationally, & in 2020, I sold a painting to a member of the UK Royal family.
