Chasing the Light: Michael J Chappell - A Retrospective
25/3/23 - 11/4/23
An exhibition showcasing the works of Michael J Chappell, who sadly passed away at the end of March last year.
Michael was an award-winning artist living and working in Dorset since 1997 who became a sought-after painter of dramatic seascapes and landscapes which capture the very essence of the British climate.
Working mainly plein-air, Michael was often seen out in all weathers usually with his canvas tied and weighted down to protect it from the winter gales which he loved to paint.
Michael also enjoyed encouraging and teaching others to express themselves through art and worked with people of all ages and abilities for many years to develop their skills. This exhibition includes the work of some of his numerous students, many of whom have gone on to exhibit and sell their work after attending his art classes.
‘Michael’s paintings illuminate and breathe the local landscape and seascape, and yet reach far beyond the representation of what he sees, and what we see too. They are windows onto a world that we can feel, touch, smell, and inhale, as well as see’
