Cockney Lines
15 - 32 August 2026
Jim Buckingham
PV Saturday 15 August 2-4pm

Jim's cockney family has a common and uncommon history.
His forebears include a coal porter, a milliner's porter, a horse-drawn carriage driver, a nanny, a foot soldier who died of fever serving the British Empire in India, a dresser of music hall star Little Tich, and an uncle who had a close, widely documented 40-year friendship with novelist EM Forster. Forster's influence played a part in encouraging a very young Jim to paint.
This exhibition tracing Jim's lines of legacy through memorabilia, portraits and abstract explorations of ancestry, details the ordinary and extraordinary inheritances of one man's life.
